In June 2007 while traveling along the Mississippi River in Illinois I captured these images; it was VERY hot. I watched this bird for 10-15 minutes and took many shots; all but one with the bird's mouth open and wings spread wide. I particularly like the "nest" image because of the makings hanging below. I tentatively identified this as an eastern phoebe, but eastern kingbird also looks like a possible fit.
