The placement of the 3 stop reverse GND had to be a challenge. As you know, I use that filter frequently, but I am not sure I would know how to make it work here.

This was a soft transition ND and they are particularly soft on a 1.5 sensor DSLR as these filters were basically designed for use with 35 mm film,,. In the actually scene here the sky is the brightest part of the image and the village is in direct sunlight,,but the foreground is already in the shadows so the 3D soft ND helped to bring the exposures from the top to the bottom closer,,. With out the ND the foreground may have been to dark,,. The ND's aren't the whole answer however they can bring things close enough to get the rest done in Capture NX, as was the case here with the final finishing and resizing in CS3,,.
