I loaded Firmware 3.0 just before heading to Wisconsin and taking in the local (and migratory) bird population. I was really impressed with the improvements, and make a few observations here: 1. All of these were taken with the 100-400mm S lens. My typical approach is to work from Wide Area C1 focus area and hand off to 3D only as needed using Fn1. The handoff worked beautifully if momentarily releasing the AF-On (back button) during the switch. If I didn't do that it would lose focus as others have reported. 2. The focus capture in Wide Area C1 was far quicker and stickier than previously, and this actually reduced my use of 3D. On several of these shots Wide Area C1 did everything needed. 3. Focus peaking is activated with only a touch of the focus ring. Others have complained about this and some have turned it off. Personally, I find this a great improvement. At any time I can touch the focus ring for confirmation without having to turn it and momentarily lose focus. Very nice. 4. At one point I looked into the sky to watch a jet flying over, and happened to see two white specs. They were unidentifiable birds flying quite high. Just for grins I pointed the lens at them and hit the back button. They immediately came into focus. The earlier firmware would have hunted fruitlessly. Just wow! I could then zoom in on Playback and identify them. All of this was just for fun. I'll have some more serious work coming up. Looking forward to the continued experience and continued development of this camera. Kevin
