Ladybird - Summer rain

Behind the image - as an inspiring macro photographer I always look for opportunities to snap a pretty big. On this lovely summers day, this little ladybug came flying through the open window, landed on my orchard I just sprays with water and started “lapping up” the water. I continued with a fine spray making sure that my camera was nearby.
The light was perfect through the window Smile. I grabbed my Nikon D7200 and made sure that I had my macro lens on. I always shoot full manual so checked my settings, popped a hone made diffuser on, just in case the light change and started snapping away.
Think I took about 60 photos, as every time I got close the ladybird will move leaving me with blurry photos. Eventually I had my winning shot with water drops. Got to love summer and the beautiful critters that come out to play.

The settings I used is as follows
Single shot handheld.
ISO 100, f9.5, 1/200

I used a speed light set to around 1/16 strength with a homemade diffuser to get a softer light but still “freeze” the subject.

I do most of my editing in lightroom. I try get my photo as close to the mark as possible so I don’t have to do too much editing. In this case I brightened the colour slightly so the ladybug stood out as the main focus.
