The Pigeon Point Lighthouse, off California Highway One between the towns of Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay, has alerted 19th century and early 20th century ships and their crews to the treacherous waters defining this portion of the Pacific coast.

The lighthouse has weathered poorly. The California State Park system speculates that restoration of the entire facility will take about 10 years to complete. Yet the building's decline does make for an interesting photograph.
