The Auburn Ravine Bridge in this photo was built in 1909 by the Southern Pacific Railroad to handle heavier freight trains and steam locomotives pulling these trains over Donner Summit. The upper part of the bridge is part of the original trestle bridge then modified to its present form with construction of I-80 - the bottom section of the bridge replaced the trestles to make way for I-80.
