This is the Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad - taken during the recent ANPAT. The day started in bright sun, but finished in a wintry mix of rain and snow. I was standing in the rain with my D850 waiting for the train. It was loaded with ANPAT participants in the third car - an open air gondola tht was a little damp but great for photography.

Wonderful capture Eric. The ones who are willing to endure situations like this lend themselves to unique capture like this one. Nobody else will every have a capture like this one. Well done.

I love everything about it. Only thing better is to be on the train.

What a great shot, Eric. Agree much more interesting with the bad weather.

Fantastic! Would love to have that photograph in a large format framed on the wall! Where is this? At this time of the year it reminds me of "The Polar Express".

Breath Taking! It is classic, and captivating. Looks like an oil painting but is so real, I can virtually hear the rumble and rainfall. You were absolutely in the right place at the right time, and you made the best of it. We should all be so lucky to have at least one of these in our collection. Congrats! (And Happy Holidays to all.)

This is a beautiful photo! I rode this train at the end of September and it had hundreds of oportunites for great shots. Of course, there was no opportunity to take a shot like this.....

Hi everyone - thanks for all the nice comments. These old railroads are a treat. The nice thing about this one is more than half the route is along the road. Perfect for train robbers of the past, and photographers of today.

Eric Bowles never fails to get a shot others would not even think to take. Lovely. Used to ride this 1/2 way to Silverton, and get off to backpack the Weminuche Wilderness, then catch it later to ride back to Durango in the freight car.
