There are three bluebird species: Eastern, Mountain and Western. Of the three species, Westerns probably need the most help, as their numbers are declining due to habitat destruction and toxic agricultural practices. Western Bluebirds are the least migratory of the three species, traveling short to medium distances, mainly to change elevation. They may be year-round residents in some areas such as Zion in Utah and the Grand Canyon in Arizona, where residents mix with migrating flocks.
