Nais Metalmarks are developmentally and evolutionarily tied to their host plant; Fendler's Snowbrush, Where you find one, the other is nearby. They both occur near streamsides in open woods of ponderosa pine and chaparral, ranging through the Rocky Mountains from central Colorado south to New Mexico, Arizona and the northern Sierra Madre in Mexico.
