Modified flute head joint permits over-blowing to extend the range of a xun-inspired ceramic instrument; steps:
Shorten a flute head joint.
Sweat solder a knuckle of brass instrument tubing onto the head joint.
Hand-throw the instrument body in two pieces using cone 6 porcelain, gently curving the top/receiver with a wooden dowel (up-measuring dimensions to allow for 12% shrinkage after final firing).
Score, slip, and join the two body pieces.
Cut the 8 front finger holes plus 2 thumb holes on the back.
Dry slowly (2+ weeks) to avoid cracking, bisque fire, then final fire at cone 6.
Use InstaMorph heat formable plastic for the final receiver fitting and angle correction.
