This original design works well as an Udu, hand drum, or snare; steps:
Throw drum and "sound spout" separately with Navajo wheel clay.
Dry until leather hard.
Trim.
Cut holes, smoothing the hand hole edge for comfort.
Shape "sound spout" to meet drum curvature, score and slip it, then apply to drum.
Dry, underglaze, bisque fire, then final fire.
Drum head fits nicely after 15% clay shrinkage at cone 6 firing.
Silicone coated sticks produce a warmer sound.
