The American lust for immensity applied to Old Glory. The pano was taken from the best vantage point available - except for the top of the high-rise fire ladder, but that was reserved for press photographers. It seems a bit strange to have a National Standard that can't be viewed properly, but I guess that's bedside the point. Nevertheless, the scale of the thing is impressive.
