Thank you both for your comments. The shot was taken on March 19, 2011, when we had our perigee moon. The shot was taken with a D300, using a Nikon 70-300 VR lens, fully racked out at 300mm. The lens was wide open at f5.6, ISO 560 (auto) and a shutter speed of 1/125th of a second, with a -4EV exposure compensation. I suppose the most remarkable thing about the shot is that it was taken hand-held from a boat in a lake outside of Phoenix, Arizona. I envisioned the shot as a silhouette, and the most difficult part was maneuriving the boat so that I could get a suitable foreground object (the saguaro) positioned properly in the fast-rising moon. Since I was both skipper and photographer, it meant simultaneously juggling the throttle, steering wheel and camera to make the elements of the shot align and then choose my camera settings to get an acceptable capture. All this while the moon and the boat are both moving. It takes the art of composition to a whole new level. The image is far from tack sharp, and now you know why. I do a lot of shooting from my boat, and I really enjoy it.

Yes, the image has been cropped significantly. Image size before the addition of the matte has been cropped down to 968 X 1154 pixels.
