Individual snowflakes are clearly visible on the beak and head of this bird when viewed at higher resolution. The lone blue jay, puffed up to conserve heat, perches amid the hoarfrost on Christmas morning. The normally aggressive bird is in defense mode, remaining motionless as I approach and capture his condition.
