29 Apr 2010 david_mathre said:Not sure that that is true. Lightroom converts it to a tiff file (using any Lightroom processing) before it is loaded into Photomatix Pro -- and the file sent back is a tiff file (16 bit).
It is true when opening directly in Photomatix Pro that it is probably better to convert to tiff first. Not sure how Photomatix converts the raw file before processing (use the imbedded jpg, the imbedded tiff (w/o any in camera settings)). Better to open in Capture NX2 so all in camera settings are applied, do any initial processing, then save as a tiff before importing into Photomatix.

29 Apr 2010 david_mathre said:If your files were .dng, all bets are off and I don't know how they were exported. You might want to look at a recent blog by Thom Hogan ( http://bythom.com/dng.htm ). I tried .dng for a while, but gave it up. I like to have full control, and process from the raw files with all of the in camera adjustments. As such I use Capture NX, Lightroom, Photoshop, Nik (Color Efex, Silver Efex), Focus Magic, Genuine Fractals, Photmatix, Autopano Giga, PTGui, and and many other tools.
