At a pre-determined location, we took advantage of a great spot visually, where a creek runs through a fallen and hollowed-out log, through a growth of ferns and moss. While the scene is very appealing, it does not photograph well with just ambient light. So we set out to see how it would look using the Nikon CLS system with two SB-900 flashes set on remote, using the D90 pop-up flash in commander mode.

In this fourth frame, we have added a second flash (Group B) that is being controlled also from the camera, set for 1/32 power ratio with a 80-degree throw of light. This flash is hand-held in the upper left corner of the frame (see the legs), pointing directly down the length of the log. The intent of this flash is to simulate sunlight coming through the trees striking the log. In comparison to the previous frame (3#), you can see textural details in the moss in the log as well as the surface of the flowing water.
