Feeding time for my Japanese Metallic Showa Koi. Photo taken straight down into pond. The Koi is facing straight up out of the water. This particular Koi has great head markings that I wanted to catch. Getting the fish to cooperate was easiest to do at feeding time. Other issues to handle were the hand held focus of fish parts at a fairly slow speed; timing the other fish's movements; getting the fish to pose away from pond hardware; any glare. Perhaps water clarity is the toughest variable as pond water is tough to keep clean & clear without screwing up the chemical mixtures, so my pond water is normally pea soup green most of the summer months, leading to fewer photo sessions per year.
