Can remain in this posture for several minutes should it sight an intruder. Beak opens and closes slightly whilst the bird and it's eyes remain like ice. Scary! He likes me though.

After seeing an image like this I would have no reservations using the 200-400mm with the 1.4 TC!

Thankyou all for your kind comments. The sharpness is down to the equipment - it's why I opted for Nikon. A trained monkey could take shots with that lens. (My wife says I fit that bill very well).
