Beautiful clarity and lighting. I like the composition too - especially the contrasts of textures with the pipes and ice. My only 'wish' would be that the owl was separated from that background pier (fence??) - very minor though - this is a really lovely capture.

Yes, it's unfortunate that distracting background is behind the owl. I can see where moving to your left to get a smooth background would have negatively impacted the lighting on the owl, at least to some degree, but wonder if you were able to try that angle at all. That Nikkor 200-400 f4 lens lived up to it's billing here.

Looks like that owl had you in its sights. If you'd have moved, he would have either swooped in for the kill, or flown away. I've never truly appreciated great wildlife shots, like this one, until I started taking ones of my own. For some reason, animals just don't dig having people creeping up on them with large metallic objects in their hands. Go figure!

I think your use of DOF is good. I would have liked for the owl to be a bit more of the composition so maybe a bit of a crop off the bottom to bring out the owl Smile
