This early morning fall picture was taken with a D300, using an AF Nikkor 70-300 mm 1:4-5.4 D (ED) lens at 145mm. Also used a circular polarizer, Brunton (Manfratto) tripod and "horizontal" trigger head, and a remote. Settings: 2.5s, f/36 (to achieve "ice-like" look on water's surface). Standing on a rock in the middle of the river, I watched the sunrise slowly light-up the yellow foliage in the right background between the trees. The tall trees at left helped block the sunlight in the foreground. Notice the Blue Heron, perched on the rock at left, waiting for breakfast to swim by. Minutes later, the bird flew to another rock to my right.
