Thank you Tom. I believe it is a type of grass spider; their web also has a funnel shaped entrance. www.BugGuide.net has some good images of various types.

Thanks Chris, it was with Gerard's prompting (on the macro forum) that helped me achieve a crop that enhanced more of the spiral form in the composition.
