Venice of the East

Jiangsu Province in southeast China is known as the "Venice of the East". The numerous watertowns are quaint and peaceful, promising the simple life and quiet times. I enjoy bringing foreign guests on a boat ride through the canals of Zhou Zhuang, propelled by a single, polished oar gently moving back and forth in time with the mournful Chinese ballad sung by the oarsman. Priceless.

My first "10". Here's why:
1) Timing - you either scouted this out and were up early on previous day(s) to check out the area, or you're incredibly lucky. Smile
2) Location - a small splash of color from the lanterns is just right.
3) The Human Element - lends a sense of life to the place.
4) My favorite - the fog in the distance (see #1 above).

I really like this photo. I get a sense of peace, serenity, tao.
