In the eighties, I was doing these kinds of shots with my F3/T and a 'waist level finder'. Or did you just shoot from the waist and cropped/straightened afterward in PP?

Yes, I kneel down or even will lay on the floor if necessary (my clothes are a mess every day, lol) I my view on street photography I never jump into a frame without first letting people know I am there, so they get used to it. I sat down here to watch them play for 10 minutes before, and even played a bit ball with them. Then, when the moment is right, I take out my camera and shoot, because they will not even notice me as a 'stranger'anymore :) I have quiet some shots of this scene, but this one worked best. You have to observe first and become a vackground, after its more easier, or that is my view ;) Have a great day!

We have one thing in common, and one not so much... but I'll do it your way for a year and see how it pans out.
What we have in common, is that in all of my rodeo and sports pics - I am either kneeling or laying flat on my stomach - to get the points-of-view you see in my shots.
What we don't have in common - until now - is the way we do 'people' shots. (I don't do many of these).
I have found throughout my years of shooting - that if I ask someone's permission to shoot them they will 'pose', meaning either freeze up or give an artificial looking smile.
So what I've been doing is take the shot first, and (then) ask for permission. Should they freeze up in the 2nd pic, not a problem, I already have what I came for. I just thank them - and send them the image. :)
