The night of the 14th of November 2016 was clear in San Jose, so I ventured out with my camera to see if I could capture a Super Moon, since there won't be another like this for 30 or more years, and I most likely will no longer be around to see it. I managed to get into a position where I had a clear shot and the moon had not risen very far by the time I did. It was hard to find a location where houses were not blocking the view and it took me some time and a lot of hiking around the neighborhood before I did. The only problem was there was no interesting foreground to include in the shot. Shot with my D810 set to manual mode with my 300 mm f4/E PF ED VR lens and Nikkor 2.0 TC mounted on my Gitzo tripod, and VR turned off. I took a number of shot continually playing with the settings of f stop, shutter speed and ISO with the camera set to spot metering. I slowly marched down the ISO and shutter speed curve, slightly changing the f stop. I found I did best by under exposing the moon just a bit in each shot. I finally settled on this one to process, in CNX-D, PSCS6 Extended using Picture Postcard Workflow. f/8, 1/100, ISO 500, 600mm.
