03 May 2013 User said:Steve, Hard to say since I have no D5200 experience. But, please note that this photo was shot 1) On a 70-300 VR lens at 300mm where it is not known for being sharp, and 2) with the 1.3x crop which results in about 15mp vs the 24mp of the D5200.
Also note that the 1.3x crop mode results in an effective 35mm focal length of 600mm (with no exposure stop penalty) vs the effective 35mm focal length of 450mm on the D5200.
I do have a D5100 which has become a candidate for sale since I got the D7000. The D7000 did have back focusing issues & was repaired under warranty. The D7100 gives you more flexibility with lens selection since the D5200 has no focus motor of its own. For me, it is far more difficult to get the control I want when shooting with the D5100. Not a videographer, but the quality of the video on the D7100 is FAR superior to that of the D5100. The articulating monitor proved not to be of great value to me. It actually has a negative value to me. Hope this helps.

This is a shot from the 3rd day I had the D7100. I was using the 70-300 VR and the 1.33x crop factor.
