To go to Grimsey was an optional tour on my trip and I had not planned to go because it was being sold as a chance to go above the Arctic Circle (big deal), yet I did some reseach and found that this little island was home to about 60 bird species. So I asked the tour director specifically how close I could get to Puffins as so far on the trip the answer would have been not close. He told me very close. So I went and boy am I glad I did. I was able to walk along the tops of the cliffs and get very close to the birds, sometimes standing at the very edge and looking down, but with the Puffins walking slowly toward them so as not to spook them into diving off into the sea. At first my shots were far away as I was afraid I would not get any goos shoots at all, but I kept getting closer and closer and was able to observe them for a long time. The weather was windy and I had chosen not to use my Monopod, although it was clipped to my belt. So this was shot hand held D700 with 70-200 VR f/2.8 with Nikon TCII 2.0 for 400 mm. I was not sure how the quality of this mix would turn out, you be the judge. f/11, 1/200, ISO 560.EDIT 7/11/14 Reprocessed in PSCS6 Extended with Picture Postcard Workflow.
