I am self taught, that is I read a lot of books and looked at a lot of videos to get to where I am. I am no expert, but I do think my PS skills are above average.

I got this idea today as I was looking at some old images I had made when experimenting with flammable liquids floating on water. I liked a flame I had created but I had never posted the original image, so it cried out to be manipulated in a composite. The fire was shot outside at night with a D200 and 200 mm f/4 AFD Micro Nikkor on a tripod. f/4.5, 1/125, -0.76EV, ISO 100. What I needed was a hand. So tonight I palmed a flashlight and took a picture in the dark with a long exposure to get some glow coming trhough my fingers. D700 with 35-70 f/2.8 Zoom @48mm. f/8, 15 sec, ISO 200 camera in manual. I then processed each image in Capture NX2 and then moved both images into Photoshop CS6 Extended where I composited them to make it look like I was holding fire in my fist.
