The full photo is a vertical, with a lot more sky and a few flying birds, but that only looks good as a large print -- I've printed it as a 16x21". I've also done a crop of just the boat and sun as a horizontal, and printed that one as a card, which is about as large as I can print it with the few pixels to work with from such a severe crop.

What I really like are the silhouettes of the men on the main vessel.
Nicely done.

Thank you for the comments. I did have several other shots of riverboats crossing the setting sun, but no others with such an interesting open sillouette. Santarem is just a couple of degrees from the Equator and is in the region with the most distinct dry season in the Amazon. The days were brutally hot. When it began to cool down much of the town showed up on the orla, the riverfront walkway. I was able to photograph fishermen casting their nets from small boats just befor sunset, then shoot the sunsets, then the people strolling or jogging along the orla.

Santarem, Brazil, August 2008. D300, ISO=200, 70-300 VR at 300mm, f8 at 1/350. I spent about a week of sunsets on the town waterfront, hoping a riverboat would cross the setting sun.
