While I was checking out new areas of Vasona Lake today, I came upon this approximately 10 inch high egret, and was able to get pretty close with my camera and tripod to get a few images of him before I got too close and he flew away.
D700 with 300mm f/4 EDIF AFS lens and Nikon 2.0 IIE teleconverter on Gitzo 3541L tripod with Markins M20L head.
