It was very dark in the debris area because of all the granite dust etc. I only had the D700 for a week before the trip and I was fumbling with the camera trying to figure out quickly how to change the ISO to a higher number. Somehow I popped up the flash. If anything, like flash photography of a night time snow storm, this image gives the viewer the feeling of what it was like in the dust storm.
