Outstanding image Lyle. I am not a big fan of B & W, but this is really nice. I have to believe it would look great in color too. The Canadian Rockies have such a distinctive look.
Best regards,
Barry

Great image Lyle. I love all your B&W shots. Would you care to share your technique converting color to B&W??

Hi Sabry
Thanks for viewing and for your positive comments and feedback on my images,,.
There are many ways of converting to B&W and while I don't have a specific technique for conversion I do have a tip or two that may help to answer your question,,.
Firstly I try to control the exposure as best I can in the camera with the help of bracketing and ND grad filters and I always shoot in Nef,,.
I further tweak exposure and shadow detail first in Capture NX and then finally in CS3 using a series of selections and levels adjustments,.
The actual conversion from color is done by switching either to grayscale mode or by using the black and white mode in layers,,. I find that pushing the levels and contrasts greatly enhances the black and white mood of the images however to much will blow out the whites and kill the shadow detail so it becomes a series of tweaks similar to darkroon dodging and burning but in the photo editing software,,.
I hope this helps and thanks again for stopping by,,.
