The Heritage Museum is a must see when you visit St. Petersburg Russia. Created by Catherine the Great to house her private art collection, it is stocked full of amazing art that you will see no where else in the world. This shot of the Raphael Loggias is hand held and lighted only by the light coming in the windows. I was amazed that for one instant, no tourists were in a hall that the moment before had been crowed. Shot taken with D200 and 12-24 Dx f/4 lens hand held, almost wide open. f/4.5, 1/125, ISO 500, 14mm.

I must really like this image, because I have spent a long time looking at it. It is as interesting as it is beautiful. The lady with white hair and wearing a bit of red is a perfect fit. Great color, highlight and shadow.

Tom thanks so much for commenting. A minute before this hall was filled with tourists. I lagged behind hoping it would clear. I liked the idea that the "guard" or whatever she was, was visible.

Thank you Light Effect. I took one with the crowd and a second one without. It does pay to linger, but my wife and tour director were not too happy with me for always falling behind.
