Peterhof covers an area of over 100 hectares and has approximately 30 buildings and pavillions and over 100 sculptures. The Architecture is 18th-19th century and Peterhof was officially opened on August 15, 1723. It was the favorite Residence of Peter the I. This view from the deck of the Grand Palace overlooks the Grand Canal (otherwise known as the Sea or Samson Canal). It was an overcast day with spurts of rain. For some reason the fountains were not turned on when I took this picture and that is too bad as water would have shot out from the front sculptures and and center sculpture in the pool area and every one of those round objects down the sides of the canal would have shot water in the air.
This was shot hand held with a D200 with 12-24 f/4 DX lens at 12mm. f/8, 1/100, ISO 200.
